The Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus complies to the i-Size (R129) legislation. What does that mean?
i-Size (R129) is a new legislation that aims to make car seats even safer than before. i-Size (R129) car seats offer ISOFIX installation, rearward facing travelling up to at least 15 months, and improved safety standards for additional protection for head and neck. To find out more about i-Size (R129) you can follow this link: www.maxi-cosi.com/i-size.
The Maxi-Cosi 2wayPearl complies to i-Size legislation. What does that mean ?
i-Size is a new legislation that aims to make car seats even safer than before. i-Size car seats offer ISOFIX installation, rearward facing travelling up to at least 15 months, and improved safety standards for additional protection for head and neck. Find out more about i-Size.
What is ISOFIX? How does it work?
ISOFIX is an international standardized fitting system, which provides a safe, easy and quick way to install a child car seat without the need of car seat belts. The name ISOFIX stands for ISO (International Standardization Organization) plus FIX (Fixation). ISOFIX car seats make use of two standard attachment points at the base of the seat in the car, plus an anti-rotation device to prevent forward pitching: this can be either a support leg or top tether.
Is ISOFIX safer than installing with a car seat belt?
ISOFIX prevents incorrect installation of the car seat while with seat belt installed car seats are often installed incorrectly. The safety score though is not neccesarily better with ISOFIX installed child car seats.
I do not have ISOFIX anchor points in my car. Can I have them installed?
This is usually not possible because the ISOFIX anchors are almost always installed during production in the factory and are attached to the chassis of the car. However, there are a number of car makes that have been offering the ISOFIX system for a number of years as an “option”. In these cars, the assembly points for the anchors are already integrated into the bottom of the car body. Please contact your car dealer for more information.
When can I use the 2way Car Seat Family, and when is the best moment to switch from Pebble Plus to 2wayPearl car seat?
You can use the 2wayFamily from birth until your child is 105 cm tall (or approx. 4 years old). You can start with the Pebble Plus with the 2wayFix base, and then switch to the 2wayPearl. You can use the Pebble Plus until your child is 75 cm tall or approximately 12 months old. The 2wayPearl can be used rearward facing from 67 cm until 105 cm (approx. 6 months to 4 years old). When your child is 15 months old (not earlier) you can very easily switch the 2wayPearl to forward facing and use the car seat in this position also until 105 cm (or approx. 4 years old).
Do I have to adjust the safety harness each time I place my child in the car seat?
Yes. Each time you install your child in the car seat you should fasten the safety harness. This is because the child can wear different clothing. If the harness is correctly tight, you should be able to pass only 1 finger between your child's body and the harness strap.
Why does the Maxi-Cosi 2wayFix need a support leg?
This support leg serves several functions. The support leg prevents the car seat from rotating (tipping) in the event of an accident. If the support leg is not used, the car seat may be pushed so deep into the seat of the car during a front-end collision that the child will be thrown forward and may even hit the front seat or dashboard. The support leg is equipped with an indicator that shows whether the installation is correct.
I notice that there is some play between the 2wayPearl and the 2wayFix. Is this safe ?
To ensure that the 2wayPearl can always easily be installed onto the 2wayFix there must be some play between the tubes and hooks. This play does not affect safety in any way whatsoever.
Why has the classification on the Maxi-Cosi 2wayPearl changed from kilo indication to height (or cm) indication ?
The Maxi-Cosi 2wayPearl complies to the new i-Size legislation and this change is part of i-Size. It is done in order to make it easier for parents to choose the right car seat for their child, and thereby minimize premature up-sizing of the car seat.
Can I install the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus with 2wayFix on the front passenger seat?
Yes, you may install the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus onto the 2wayFix on the front passenger seat if that seat has ISOFIX anchor points. VERY IMPORTANT to make sure that the airbag has been deactivated. Most cars do not have ISOFIX anchorages in the front passenger seat.
From when can I use the Maxi-Cosi 2wayPearl forward facing ?
Maxi-Cosi recommends to use the car seat as long as possible (until 105 cm or ±4 years) in a rearward facing position since this enhances the safety for your child in frontal collisions. The 2wayPearl can be used though in a forward facing position when your child is at least 15 months old. By then the child’s neck is strong enough to withstand the impulsive force of an average frontal collision.
Why do Maxi Cosi group 1 car seats have a 5-point safety harness?
All group 1 car seats of Maxi-Cosi have 5 point safety harness with one-pull adjustment. This harness distributes the forces of an impact best over the strong bones of the child and into the seat. Additionally, the 5 point harness allows perfect adjustment of the child and keep him secured in the safest position in the seat.
