FAQ
I do not have IsoFix anchor points in my car. Can I have them installed?
This is usually not possible because the IsoFix anchors are almost always installed during production in the factory and are attached to the chassis of the car. However, there are a number of car makes that have been offering the IsoFix system for a number of years as an “option”. In these cars, the assembly points for the anchors are already integrated into the bottom of the car body. Audi and Volvo, for example, offer this option. Talk to your car dealer for more information.
Is IsoFix safer than installing with a car seat belt?
If installed properly, a Maxi-Cosi car seat is the safest in its class. The IsoFix method prevents incorrect installation of the car seat, but is no safer than when the seat is installed using the traditional method. IsoFix prevents incorrect installation because a colour indicator (red or green) is used to indicate the correct installation of various parts.
What is IsoFix?

ISOFIX is an international standardized fitting system, which provides the safest, easiest and quickest way to install a child car seat correctly without the need of vehicle seat belts. The name ISOFIX stands for ISO (International Standardization Organization) plus FIX (Fixation). ISOFIX car seats make use of two standard attachment points located at the base of the seat, plus an anti-tipping forward device: either a support leg or top tether.
From 2006 all new cars are equipped with ISOFIX, and ISOFIX is also fitted in a large number of car brands built prior to 2006.

Why is the 2wayFix base physically bigger than other bases (such as the 2wayFix base)?
The 2wayFix base with the 2wayPearl car seat comply with i-Size, and in this new legislation dimensions of support legs are described in detail in order to provide an even better fit with cars. Together with car manufacturers these dimensions have been defined, and i-Size legislation will make sure that new i-Size car seats fit perfectly in future i-Size compliant cars. Since the 2wayFix base allows a rearward facing toddler car seat on it (with a child until 105 cm or approx. 18KG rearward facing), it has to withstand different and significantly higher forces in accidents. Much more weight is being exposed to this base in accidents, and therefore the product is strengthened in many different aspects.

Why does the Maxi-Cosi need a support leg to support IsoFix products?
This support leg serves several functions. The support leg prevents the car seat from rotating (tipping) in the event of an accident. If the support leg is not used, the car seat may be pushed so far into the seat of the car during a front-end collision that the child will be thrown forward and may even hit the front seat or dashboard. The support leg is equipped with an indicator that shows whether the installation is correct. All IsoFix products from Maxi-Cosi have indicators so that you can immediately see whether the car seat has been installed correctly. The indicators are located on the steel IsoFix anchor points and the support leg: a green colour appears if the support leg is adjusted properly. The IsoFix products from Maxi-Cosi rank among the very best and safest car seats on the market. The Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix with EasyFix base has received the highest possible rating of five stars. Your child is guaranteed optimal safety with our IsoFix products.
My car has a floor storage compartment that prohibits correct installation of the support leg, what can I do?
We advise you to check the manual of your car if any information is provided. Otherwise you can contact your car dealer to assess options. It might be possible to place the leg at the bottom of the storage compartment or place the support leg on top of it. Some car brands also sell storage compartment filling material.
How can I store the support leg best ?
Make sure the support leg is totally folded in (as short as possible). Then, place the support leg to the insde onto the base and extend the support leg subsequently a little (±1 cm). Like this, the support leg will remain in this position.
Can the Maxi-Cosi 2wayFix base be installed in any car ?
The Maxi-Cosi 2wayFix can be installed in most cars equipped with the ISOFIX system. There are however some exceptions to this. Please consult the Car Fitting List.
Is it still safe to use the Maxi-Cosi 2wayFix if the batteries have gone dead ?
Once installed, the safety performance is not affected by the batteries; the lights and sound serve only to indicate correct or incorrect installation. When the batteries are low in voltage, this will be indicated by the LED light visually and by a sound warning. You can change the batteries easily from the bottom of the 2wayFix base. On average, the batteries will last for approximately 2 years.
What is the function of the anti-rebound bar on the 2wayFix ?
The anti-rebound bar brings more stability and safety for longer rearward facing use. In combination with the 2wayPearl, the 2wayFix can be used up to 105 cm (±4 years) rearward facing.
The display indicator with one dot remains red, what can I do ?
The light with one dot indicates a correct installation of the ISOFIX anchorages of the 2wayFix. Make sure that both ISOFIX anchors at the back of the base are installed correctly to the ISOFIX anchorage of the car.
The display indicator with two connected dots remains red, what can I do ?
The light with two connected dots indicates a correct installation of the support leg of the 2wayFix. Make sure that the support leg is totally unfolded so that the angle of the support leg is slightly towards the front. Please consult the manual for more information on the interactive display.
The display indicator with three connected dots remains red, what can I do ?

The light with three connected dots indicates if the CabrioFix, Pebble Plus or 2wayPearl car seat is correctly installed onto the 2wayFix base. Please make sure that both in the front and in the back the car seat is correctly installed onto the base.

Can I install the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus with 2wayFix on the front passenger seat?
Yes, you may install the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus onto the 2wayFix on the front passenger seat if that seat has ISOFIX anchor points. VERY IMPORTANT to make sure that the airbag has been deactivated. Most cars do not have ISOFIX anchorages in the front passenger seat.
What does the ">15m" indicator on the display mean?
The >15m stands for "only to be used in this position as of minimally 15 months old". This is in line with the new i-Size legislation that prescribes to only start transporting children in cars forward facing when they are over 15 months old. By then the child’s neck is strong enough to withstand the impulsive force of an average frontal collision.
What does the airbag warning indicator on the display mean?
This indicator communicates to turn off an airbag when the 2wayFix is positioned on the front passenger seat. Using a rear facing car seat in the presence of an active frontal airbag is even not allowed by law. This is for the reason that if it was to inflate, it would expose the child to forces equivalent to a heavy crash and can cause severe injuries or even death. Most cars though do not have ISOFIX anchorages on front passenger seats.
