ISOFIX: WHAT IS IT?
ISOFIX is an international standardised fitting system, which provides the safest, easiest and quickest way to install a child car seat correctly, without the need of car seat belts. From 2006, all new cars are equipped with Isofix and a top tether anchorage point. Isofix is also fitted in a large number of car brands built prior to 2006.
Installing a Maxi-Cosi Isofix car seat using the Isofix fitting points in your car
creates a rigid connection between the car seat and the car chassis.
Maxi-Cosi Isofix baby and toddler car seats and base units have a
support leg which prevents forward rotation. An Isofix car seat or base
needs to be installed once, after which you can leave the restraint in the car,
ready for use on every trip.
3-Point Isofix attachment
At the recommendation of legislative car safety experts, most Isofix car seats feature three Isofix fitting points. This provides a more solid connection between the child car seat and the vehicle. The third anchorage point, either a Top Tether or a floor support, offers extra stability and prevents the rotational and forward movement of the child car seat. In an accident, the forward movement of your child will be considerably reduced to avoid any contact with the car interior.
